Random Hand - Bones

To begin the music video we hear the diagetic sound of an electric however the screen is completely black. This simple beginning communicates to the audience by the emphasis on only the sound that were going to be listening to a genre of heavy metal.

The use of a panning up the screen and zoom towards the drummer helps to introduce the mise-en-scene of a normal English pub, with the use of a handheld camera style which moves through the many groups of people, were made to feel as if we are the one walking towards the drummer.

A swift pan to the left and the singer jumps at the camera, this is match cut to the lyrics gives the illusion that he's trying to grab our attention

We see suddenly see the action from a long shot; we see that the people in the scene are completely ignoring the band as they performed too

The use of medium shots and close ups of the band singing the lyrics seems to be a metaphor for them trying to communicate the message of the song to the masses. However the people continue to ignore the band; maybe referencing how people in their opinion don’t “make the most of it”

Pans are used throughout the video to show how the band is performing in un-naturalistic places. For instance the band perform in a car park during the trumpet solo and in the toilets of the pub in the first chorus

The juxtaposition in angles during the band performance and them actually attempting to communicate the public is obvious, during the bands performances the use of continual low angle shots of the band singing the lyrics is very iconic of most music videos, while during the natural scenes we see the action from above rather than below

Finally the cuts tend to be on the beat to help create a continual flow in the video, however they increase when the band is actually performing to the crowd to help increase the speed and feeling of the piece. This contrasts dramatically when the song ends with one long cut of the band and the cleaner slowly sweeping the floor
