Music Video Analysis: Random Hand - Anger Managment

Random Hand - Anger Managment
  • The first footage we see in the music video is of the lead singer struggling up a hill in windy Yorkshire. This establishing shot (done with the use of a long-shot) shows the bands roots having formed in the town of Keighley and how even with there continual climb to succes they are still humble, this being shown by how the lead singer is walking to his destination during such bad weather.
  • Once he has entered the building we are introduced to the band looking glum in what appears as a small cramped room, this seems to be a metaphor how the band is an underground movement as opposed to being mainstream like many bands.
  • During the next minuet or so we see multiple camera angles iconic of many conventional music videos. These include close-up of the person singing, close-ups of the instruments, medium shots of the band singing to the camera/us the audience.
  • The use of a dolly to pan during the shots of the musicians means there is a continual flow during the video, this a popular convention of music videos.
  • At 2:12 in the video we also see a one off view of the band from the behind. This allows us the audiance to realise they are preforming to a wall.
  • Suddenly the music stops, from a shot behind the band we see the wall infront of the band fall, this is great example of match on action as the silence and wall falling are perfectly coordinated. 
  •  The mise-en-scene now completley changes, the music becomes louder and more violent to emphasis the passion and rage in the video as people rip the wallpaper, jump around and sing along with the band. This is also helped by the stage lights with their violent coloured spotlights that juxtapose the previouse naturalistic scene. The cuts are sped up to make the scene move faster and reinforce the feelings of passion and anger.
  • The use of a handheld camera means we feel as if were there in the mosh as the camera moves up and down with the people jumping.
  • The final scene as the song ends uses a angled shot from below the musicians. It's done as the artitists drop there instruments and storm off stage, this symbolises their rebelious nature which is influential to the point where even the camera man wants to mimic their actions.
