Music Video Analysis: Sonic Boom Six- Sound of a Revolution

Sonic Boom Six- Sound of a Revolution
·      The first shot we see is an establishing shot of the school. This is down with a pan to the right, which helps emphasise the facet we are at a school.
·      Then we have a lyric and scene match with the use of non-diagetic sound. This helps to introduce us to the narrative side of the video.
·      Then we see the band for the first time. The cameraman uses panning and handheld camera shots to create a sense of movement throughout the song.
·      Throughout the song there are ‘edits to the beat’ which help to sync with the tempo of the song itself.
·      The song has many conventions of a standard music video; for instance we have to settings, the narrative world and the setting in which the band are performing.
·      At multiple scenes we see jump cuts in which codes for the fact something isn’t right with the world he is living in.
·      In the band scenes we have over the shoulder shots to get views of the audience and their sheer vastness, this juxtaposes the lonely student who we often see in open areas.
·      As the teenager starts to rebel we see changes in his character. From slow, unchanging shots to him in his hoodie (the metaphor which coded for his change as a person), then finally this combined with his change in pace in the shots and the speed of edit show his final stage in the metamorphosis in character.
·      Then we see near the end regular cuts from the band to the student running, connotations that he may be trying to get to the performance.
·      The final shot is a from the students view as if he has just gotten through the entrance. The fact we can only hear the diagetic noise may connote that he might be too late for the ‘revolution’

  1. Some excellent detailed analysis. Ensure that you relate back to these ideas when you evalute your own production. Well done.
